Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of our most frequently asked questions by clients. If you have a question that we have not included, please contact us so we can provide you with more information. We look forward to hearing from you.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

Private Funded Patients: No referral is necessary to access physiotherapy services. You can schedule an appointment directly.

WorkSafeBC or ICBC Claims: No referral is needed for your initial ICBC or WorkSafe BC appointment. However, after a few months of treatment, you may need one. Our front desk staff will inform you if and when a referral becomes necessary.

Extended Health Insurance: Most private extended health insurance plans cover  physiotherapy services. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage before your appointment.

If you have any questions about your eligibility or coverage, feel free to reachout to us! We’re here to help you navigate the process.

How long will my treatment sessions last?

Initial physiotherapy and chiropractic treatment sessions typically last between 45 to 60 minutes, depending on your specific needs. This initial visit includes an assessment and treatment. Follow up appointments are usually about 30 to 40 minutes.

What types of payment do you accept?

We accept various payment methods, including cash, Interac, VISA and Mastercard and direct billing for many extended health insurance providers.

Will my insurance cover physiotherapy?

Coverage varies by insurance provider. It’s best to check with your provider regarding your specific plan.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required depends on your individual condition and treatment plan. Your physiotherapist will discuss this with you during your initial assessment.

What can I expect during my first visit?

Your first visit will include a thorough assessment, discussion of your concerns, and an initial treatment plan tailored to your needs.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?

We require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment.  To cancel or change your appointment, please call or email the office (admin@abbyphysio.com).  Alternatively, you can log into your online booking account.  If less than 24 hours notice is given and it is the first time a fee of 50% of the visit is charged then 100% thereafter.  This is the same for any missed appointments.

Is parking available?

Yes. Please provide ample time to find parking as it is quite busy.  There is a parking lot, street parking on Allwood Street or Simon Avenue as well as across the street at Save-On Foods or Canadian Tire.  Do not park in the underground parkade as this will result in being towed.

Is there any paperwork I have to fill out?

If you are unable to fill out the online Intake Form, please come 20 minutes early to fill out the paper form.

What do I wear to my treatment session?

It is important that you can move with ease during your appointment. Please wear comfortable stretchy fabrics that will not restrict your movement. If you have a concern with your lower extremity or back, shorts are a good idea to wear or bring with you to change into at the clinic. For neck, shoulder, or mid back concerns women should wear a sports bra or tank top if comfortable. Hospital gowns, shorts, and t- shirts are available to wear if you need them.

If you have orthotics, wear those in your shoes and bring them in. It is always a good idea to bring in the shoes you wear daily and/ or exercise in.

Will my extended health care plan pay for my treatment?

Due to every plan being different we recommend that you call your individual plan to ask them prior to your first appointment.

Can I see more than one practitioner at once?

Yes, you can see multiple practitioners at our clinic! Each practitioner has their own unique approach and style for treating the body. Many patients choose to receive physiotherapy, chiropractic care, and/or massage therapy (RMT) for the same concern.

Our practitioners have completed various certifications and courses tailored to specific issues or areas of the body, allowing for a comprehensive treatment plan that addresses your needs from multiple perspectives. If you’re interested in this approach, just let us know, and we can help coordinate your care!
