Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is the degeneration or breakdown of cartilage or other structures in the joint. Aging is a common cause of degeneration. It can also be caused by repetitive overuse and trauma to the joints.

Total joint replacements: total knee and hip replacements are a common surgical treatment to severe osteoarthritis or degeneration.

Signs and symptoms of frozen shoulder osteoarthritis include:
  • pain in the affect joint
  • swelling in a joint
  • clicking or popping in a joint (crepitus) 
  • joint stiffness worse in the morning or when sitting or standing for long periods
  • loss of flexibility
  • bone spurs
  • tenderness 
  • decreased strength
  • difficulty walking or using the limb
  • a joint looking different than the other
