What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy keeps you moving!
Whenever mobility, independence and physical fitness are important, physiotherapy can help.
Physiotherapy:
- is primary health care (doctor's referral not necessary in British Columbia)
- helps you reach your maximum strength and movement potential, whether you're able-bodied or disabled
- provides preventive, diagnostic and rehabilitative services to help you achieve your optimal function after injury or disease
- involves you in setting your own treatment goals
- encourages your independence
- is a non-intrusive, cost-effective choice for managing your health
Training
Every practising physiotherapist in British Columbia has graduated from an accredited Canadian university degree program or its equivalent. They have completed a minimum of four years academic training and a clinical internship.
To practice in B.C., physiotherapists must be licensed by the College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia. The College sets and enforces educational and practice standards.
